Launching User-Trained Chatbots (Mar 8th 2023)
Upstream now lets you train AI chatbots with your content.
Chatbots are a powerful way to build specialized AI assistants.
This means you can combine multiple data sources and train an AI to answer questions specific to those sources.
This unlocks a new set of use cases for our customers. Here's a few examples:
- Chatbot to answer customer questions.
Businesses of any size are able to train a chatbot on their company's website to add a new way for their customer's to know about their products and services.
- Chatbot for R&D.
Teams are able to gather many research documents and papers into a chatbot to discuss new approaches and ideas.
- Chatbot for technical translation.
Teams are able to train a chatbot on their technical documentation to help non-technical people understand their products.
- Chatbot for hobbyists.
Hobbyists are able to train a chatbot on their hobby to help others learn about it.

Upgrading to ChatGPT (Feb 29th 2023)
released the model used in ChatGPT. This is the most advanced AI model out there and I've made the
changes for Upstream to use it.
Across the board it's a step change improvement, here's what it means for you:
- Faster response times.This model is 5-10X faster than the previous model which translates to
noticeably lower waiting times to get answers.
- Better quality answers.This model is highly fine-tuned, producing much better quality answers.
- More relevant answers from your data.From user feedback, I've increased the response length and made
changes to the PDF retrieval process to improve your results.
These are exciting times in AI -- with the world's best models publicly available, smaller teams like
Upstream can focus on building deep, high value integrations for our customers.
Upstream with external data sources (Feb 28th 2023)
Upstream now lets you upload PDFs. This means you can get answers and back-and-forth dialogue
using your PDF files as context.
AI is a powerful to the extent that it helps you accomplish a task -- my goal with this integration is to get
you factual answers, from your data sources, in no time.
It's super easy, this is how it works:
- Upload a PDF.
- Select the file by pressing the '/' key.
- Start a dialogue.
Under the hood, it's a two step process where your PDF and dialogue is converted into a vector
space representation. Then Upstream does semantic search to the most relevant passages in the PDF and formulates

We are excited to annouce Upstream AI for the Web! Here's what's new:
Your private link. Users are now able to use Upstream on the web using their private link.
Web and Chrome in Sync.The Web and Chrome Extension are in sync to seamlessly switch
and resume conversations.
Release Notes V0.3.0 (Feb 14th 2023)
We are excited to annouce our biggest release yet, the Upstream AI Chatbot! Here's what's new:
Chat. Users are now able to ask questions and refine with back-and-forth conversation.
Conversation history. Users are now able to read and resume past conversations.
Content-aware Q&A. Users are now able to select Chrome tabs as context for conversation.
Free & unlimited plans Based on user feedback, we are moving to a subscription model with
conversations and a free plan with weekly message limits.
Other improvements. Eg. remembers your secret key, auto scrolling, and more.
